NZ OTJs:
from razzamatazz to revolution?
When NZ began the journey of overall teacher judgments (OTJs), an important component of students’ achievement against National Standards (NS), there was noisy protest amongst the education sector. Whilst valuable lessons could be learned from countries such as Australia, little was known about NZ teacher capacity to formulate accurate and consistent judgments, nor how comparable such judgments were in relation to those of their colleagues’. Some intriguing findings from New Zealand research into primary teachers’ understanding and practices with OTJs are examined in the address along with some revolutionary ideas.
